A 27 year-old record was shattered and the Saints registered another win. History was re-written on Monday night and NFL fans were in for probably the treat of their lives, as Drew Brees broke Dan Marino’s record of yards passing in a single season and his team, the New Orleans Saints, trounced the Atlanta Falcons 45-16 to secure the NFC South title. Other teams are probably scouting around for divorce attorneys to forge a break-up and rope in Brees and some members of his victorious team. Brees has some outstanding running backs to make their offense even more formidable.
Brees’ Feat
Dan Marino’s record of yards passing in a single season, 5,084, was set in 1984. It stood strong for a long time, with some players coming tantalizingly close to it, till Brees made the final pass in the game against the Falcons. He ended up with 5,087 yards passing; one more game is left and that is just icing on the cake. Brees is also the first player in NFL history to pass for 5,000 yards and more, and that too, twice. He had passed for 5,069 yards in 2009. And better yet, Brees does not play for a coach who cheats like the New England Patriot’s coach Bill Belichick does.
Without Jerry Rice as Well
Brees has also collected more feathers for his cap. His four touchdowns earned him 276 in his career and pushed him up to the ninth position in the list of all-time highs. He thus surged ahead of Joe Montana (273) and Vinny Testeverde (275). With such phenomenal figures, it is only natural that talent hunters in other teams are looking around for divorce attorneys to effect a termination of Brees’ association with the Saints.
Brees is a Class Act
Drew Brees is however, modest and attributes his success to the support from his teammates. With such passing skills and team spirit, it is highly unlikely that the Saints are going to call in the divorce attorneys any time soon for Brees!
